Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Education (PBDE)
What is the PBDE?
The PBDE is a 30 credit hour program developed for in-service teachers and other educators and caregivers. PBDE students can, depending upon their interests, needs, and/or areas of expertise, design their own, highly personalized program of studies.
The features of the PBDE allow students several interesting options:
- To create their own program of studies focusing on their own special areas of interest.
- To take courses not only from the Faculty of Education, but from other Faculties at the University of Winnipeg.
- To receive credit for approved courses from other institutions.
Value of the PBDE
Earning a PBDE has many benefits. Most notably, it allows educators an opportunity to grow personally and professionally by targeting and building their skills in specific areas. Concomitantly, it opens up possibilities for lifelong learning and personal/career enhancement for individuals who do not have the time, inclination, or background to enrol in a formal graduate program. There are other advantages as well:
- Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth recognizes the PBDE for salary classification purposes.
- In appropriate circumstances, Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth may also count some PBDE courses toward their School Clinician, Special Education, Counselling, and Level 1 or 2 School Leader Certificates.
- As a recognized Diploma, the PBDE is conferred at Convocation, and often helpful for career development and advancement.

This program will be of interest to both novice and experienced counsellors who wish to take on expanded leadership roles in their schools. Our program meets the requirements of the School Counsellor Certificate granted by Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth. Further information
Education for Sustainability Stream
